Brett Favre throws away game in Minnesota Vikings' second straight loss
The Brett Favre regime resumed in Minnesota on Sunday, but unfortunately for the Vikings there wasn’t a whole lot to be excited about. Favre’s three interceptions resulted in the Miami Dolphins defeating
the Vikings 14-10.
Favre’s penchant for turning the ball over, mixed with all of the turmoil that the Vikings have gone through this off-season have them starting the season with an 0-2 record and Favre only throwing one
touchdown pass in two games. "I don't think any of these guys are panicked," coach Brad Childress said. "But I do feel like the urgency will definitely pick up."
Miami got off to a fast start as they did not hesitate to stretch the field and throw the ball deep. On the Dolphins opening offensive series, quarterback Chad Henne connected with Brandon Marshall for
a 46-yard bomb which set up a touchdown by receiver Brian Hartline to give Miami a 7-0 lead that they would carry until the first half.
The Vikings had the Dolphins on their own 1-yard line, but Miami’s running-back Ronnie Brown busted a 51-yard run to get his offence out of trouble and win the battle of field position. The Dolphins held
Favre in check, the Vikings offence not scoring a single point after two quarters.
At the beginning of the second half, Vikings’ Brett Favre was hit inside his end zone and fumbled the ball which was recovered by the defence to increase the Dolphins lead to 14 points. With Minnesota’s
passing game struggling, the Vikings elected to put the game and the ball in the hands of their All-Pro running-back Adrian Peterson.
Peterson had a quiet performance last Sunday but had a solid outing against Miami’s week run-defence and showed that the Vikings still posses a formidable rushing attack to go with an array of talented
receivers. Peterson rushed for 145 yards and caught five passes for 41 yards.
Peterson cut Miami’s lead in half by scoring a 1-yard touchdown in the third quarter and kicker Ryan Longwell added a field goal later in the half to trim the lead to four points in Miami’s favour.
The Dolphins improved their record to 2-0 and created havoc for Favre who completed 22 of 36 passes for 225 yards and no touchdowns. Favre threw two interceptions at home all of last season and the Dolphins
intercepted him three times on Sunday.
The Vikings’ offence has had a shortage of points in their two first games, combining for a total of 19 points.
