Why is his name pronounced with the r before the v? This really irritates me. And will until i find a logical reason that has to do with the pronunciation. From what i can tell its of some type of french origin, And i am pretty sure if its french this is not the way its suppossed to be pronounced.

  1. That is a good question, but I have always called him FAV-R-BEAN

because I never liked his arrogant ways.  GO BEARS!

  2. In French it does sound a little bit more like it is pronounced. It would be pronounced "F-ah-v-ray" in French. My best guess would be since most Americans cannot role their "R"s, they reduced saying the last par "ray" to just "re". Hence, "F- ah - v- re."

Hope this helps. Btw, he just got traded to the Jets.

  3. He's from Louisiana originally.. which used to be owned by.. GASP! the French!

  4. It is french. i added a link to the genealogy page I found.

  5. I say Faveraye

  6. If it bugs you so much, pronounce it whatever way you see fit & enjoy the looks you get from people as that look at you like you are "special"

  7. its like alot of french names that are pronounced much differently than americans would expect. just look at hockey players of french origin. some people tend to accept the butchered version as the pronunciation of their names. i once had to anounce the names of a canadian national baseball team at a tournament and really struggled with the way they told me they were pronounced.

  8. Ask his parents.

  9. Must be that ever annoying silent V that I have heard so much about

  10. Because we are pronuciating it like FA - VRE. And plus when he says his own name he pronounces its like that as well. If it was wrong I believe he would've come out a while or have people corrected.

And Congrats to  Greenbay for getting rid of the drama so they can have somewhat normal season now.

  11. it's another example of the many english language quirks.   that's all...

  12. I've had that same question for years, and like you, have never gotten a good answer.  I guess it's just one of those foreign names that has been b astardized by us lazy Americans.
