Brett Fielding wins Men’s 10km Open Water gold: Day two – 2012 Australian Open Water Championships
The 14-year-old Brett Fielding stunned the audience by winning gold medal of 10km Open Water swim in Men’s 14 and under category on second day of the 2012 Australian Open Water Championships on Saturday, February 18.
The Australian Open Water tournament was a three-day event that provided an opportunity to their national athletes to display their ruthless efforts before the upcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
Fielding of Lawley impressed the open water crowd by keeping his competitors at a considerable distance. With his stupendous efforts, he stayed nearly 10 minutes ahead of his following swimmer, Oliver Pye, and seized top spot on the podium for gold medal by clocking a time of 2 hours, 04 minutes and 16.57 seconds.
The 14-year-old Pye stayed considerably slower from him, but stepped on the podium for silver medal by clocking an effort of 2 hours, 14 minutes and 35.75 seconds. The silver medallist was trailed by Kurt Hogan of Commercial, who shadowed Pye on the victory stand for bronze medal by clocking a time of 2 hours, 16 minutes and 58.86 seconds.
In the meantime, the spectators enjoyed scintillating efforts of Thomas Wood in Men’s 15 Year Olds class. Surrey Park’s Wood stayed significantly ahead of his following swimmers and transpired on the finishing end for first position by submitting an effort of 1 hour, 59 minutes and 50.72 seconds.
He was the only swimmer to cover the 10km distance in less than two hours in his age group. He was chased by Ethan Owens of Clovercrest, who was almost five minutes slower from him and ended his race in a time of 2 hours, 04 minutes and 04.72 seconds.
Owens was followed by Mitchell Littler of Bond Swimming Club, who remained almost two minutes apart and appeared on the finishing wall for third position by producing a time of 2 hours, 05 minutes and 40.29 seconds.
Fielding was contented with his gold winning effort in the 10km discipline and while the session concluded after the completion of all swimming events. Furthermore, these open water athletes collected their medals at the medal ceremony of the championship.
