http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brett-Holman-c8047, the 28-year-old Aston Villa winger, has revealed he is determined to make his mark in the English game with his skills and winning mentality.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Australia-c746 international will be joining the English Premier League side in the upcoming week as they regroup for pre-season training. Holman signed a pre-contract with the Villans in March while he was still playing for the Dutch outfit AZ Alkmaar.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/AZ-c38571 Alkmaar winger has made 53 appearances for his country since he made his debut for the senior team in 2006. He admitted he hoped to follow in the successful footsteps of his countryman Mark Bosnich, who also played for Aston Villa amongst other
sides.
Holman revealed he was now aware of the Australian mentality after having a manager like Louis van Gaal at AZ Alkmaar. He was certain having played at the Dutch side for four years would only help him in the English Premier League when he joined Aston Villa.
Holman said while speaking to reporters:
“The way they play in Holland is very technical and, mixed with an Aussie mentality; I think it is a great combination.
Playing under Louis van Gaal (at Alkmaar) you learn a lot as a player and that has definitely rubbed off on me.”
Holman revealed he knew the valuable contribution Bosnich had made for the Premier League side and was hoping to do the same. According to the Australian winger, Bosnich had made an important impact on the English Premier League side during his eight years
with them.
Bosnich, the 40-year-old stopper, joined Aston Villa from Sydney United in 1992 but did not get to make his mark in the first team until the following season. He played a crucial role in their win against Tranmere http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385 in the League Cup semi-final when
he saved three shots in the penalty shoot-out.
He continued:
“I also know about what a good goalkeeper Mark Bosnich was for this club and he really made his name here.
He gave Australians a good name at Villa Park and I hope I can make an impact as well.”
