Brett Lawrie sparks as Toronto Blue Jays defeat Oakland Athletics 8-4 - MLB Update

Toronto Blue Jays’ third baseman, Brett Lawrie had a remarkable day with the bat as he hit four RBIs along with a solo homer and went 2-for-4 with an average of .389 in the Jays’ 8-4 victory over the Oakland Athletics at Rogers Centre, Toronto on August
10.
Blue Jays’ batters got off to a decent start as compared to the first game and posted a single run during first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Adam Lind drove a single-run shot towards centre-field and Yunel Escobar scored one run to get off the mark while Jose
Bautista moved to second base to end the first inning.
During second and third inning, the pitchers displayed a classy performance to limit the runs of the batters. Athletics seemed powerless in third inning as at centre-field, Hideki Matsui flied out while Jemile Weeks and Cliff Pennington both were struck-out.
Athletics stepped on the gas to burst three runs in fourth inning and went ahead 3-1. David DeJesus struck a one-run homer (413 feet) towards centre-field. Conor Jackson added one run to the Athletics’ score-card when Ryan Sweeney hit a double-run drive
to deep centre-field. The third run was taken by Sweeney when Scott Sizemore singled off centre-field to complete a three-run campaign.
The batters failed to produce gaps during fifth inning and got out. Blue Jays’ starter, Henderson Alvarez pitched just over five innings and gifted eight hits, three runs, one walk, one home-run and three earned runs with an ERA of 4.76. He had just four
strike-outs on his 104 pitches.
In sixth inning, Blue Jays’ batters outclassed the pitchers by smashing five runs and got a 6-3 lead. Lind posted a single run on the drive of Aaron Hill towards left-field and Lawrie struck a solo home run (350 feet) towards left-field. The rest of the
three runs were taken by Edwin Encarnacion, Colby Rasmus and Hill to end a five run campaign.
Blue Jays added two consecutive runs during the seventh and eighth inning to advance their lead 8-3. Bautista scored one run in the seventh while Lawrie posted the last run for Blue Jays during eighth inning. On the other side, Athletics’ left-fielder, Josh
Willingham posted the final run by hitting a solo homer (410 feet) towards left-field to shorten the lead 8-4.
With this amazing effort, the Blue Jays were able to tie the three-game series 1-1.
