Brett Lee, Shaun Tait key to World Cup success says Ricky Ponting - ICC World Cup 2011
Australian batsman, Ricky Ponting has said that the Australian fast bowlers are the best in the world. The highly anticipated world cup has finally started and so far we have not seen any major teams competing with each in the World Cup. Teams like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kenya-c752 and have a long way to go in the tournament.
Cricket lovers would not be expecting the Australian team to lift the World Cup title, but they would certainly be expecting some good performances from the Australian team during the world cup. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 has some notable fast bowlers in their squad and can create a good impact during the world cup.
Ricky Ponting defended the pace power of the Australian side, “I don’t see another team around this tournament that has got the wicket taking power that we’ve got”. Australia have names like Brett http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lee-c72382, Shaun Tait and Mitchell Johnson in their squad and these bowlers have a great ability of dismissing any opposition on their day.
All these bowlers are recognized worldwide and have a great ability of threatening the opening batsmen in their spells. Ponting also said that Brett Lee is a far better defensive bowler now compared to any phase of his career. At the start of his career, Lee was not that economical during his spells and had the tendency of going for some easy runs in the early overs.
But Ponting had some different opinion for Shaun Tait, and said that Tait can be a bit undisciplined with his line and length during his spells. Ponting while talking about Tait said, “At his best he hopefully won’t bowl too many of those 10 ball over’s in this tournament”.
Tait is another fast bowling option for the Australian team and can bulldoze the opposition with some quick stuff during his spells. But he also has a tendency of being a bit undisciplined in his bowling and can lose his focus during his spells.
Ponting while speaking about the bowling prowess of Tait exclaimed, “The last World Cup he had for us was outstanding, and I’ll look at using him pretty much the same way, in very short, sharp bursts”.
Shaun Tait was pretty impressive during the 2007 world cup and took a handful of wickets in his opening spells. Ponting said that when Tait is not picking wickets during his spells then he should be taken off the attack and should be brought back into the attack when partnerships are developing.
Ponting would have to chose his bowling options carefully during the world cup, as conditions would not be ideal for the fast bowlers and they could go for some quick runs during their spells.
