http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brett-Lee-c48419 declines New South Wales contract offer – Cricket News Update
Australian pacer, Brett Lee, has rejected a contract offer from his domestic club, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823, claiming that he wants youngsters to fill his boots but added that he is more than available for both, club and country.
The veteran pacer is currently with the national team squad which gears up to tackle http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in a five-match series, starting from June 29. He was further omitted from the group of 17, who received their national contracts for the upcoming season.
Now solely a part of the limited-over side, Lee has set sights on breaking Glenn McGrath’s record of 380 ODI wickets, where he currently one short of equalling that hallmark.
However, with a new contract structure in place, Lee was adamant in looking towards the future. While he has little intentions of retiring, the hectic cricketing schedule has seen him play little for his domestic side and having further relinquished first-class
cricket, the veteran is now concentrating on playing on a match-by- match basis, which open doors for a youngster to get a permanent contract with NSW.
"I truly appreciate Cricket New South Wales' offer but given the unique position I find myself in under the new contracting model, it makes sense to give this opportunity to a young player," Lee said. "I am still very much focused on earning a Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746
contract over the next two months and will continue to help Cricket New South Wales where I can this season."
The situation indeed makes sense as Lee needs to play at least six ODIs or 12 T20s in the upcoming season to qualify for 12 points under the new system.
The revamped Cricket Australia structure has seen considerable overhauling with a performance based package being put into place as opposed to the fixed pay-day package. Many players had their reservations regarding the new implementations before a delayed
agreement was signed between CA and Australian Cricketers’ Association.
For Lee, it gives him a chance to enhance his T20 career where he represents Kolkata Knight Riders and Sydney Sixers – both of whom have qualified for this year’s Champions League T20.
