Former Australian pacer Brett Lee, who retired from international cricket in July this year, has expressed the desire to serve as a role model for the future generation of fast bowlers, claiming he never compromised on speed despite a string of injuries,
and aims to pass on the same attitude to the fresh crop of pacers.
“My love and passion for the game helped me overcome the tough phases,” said the 35-year-old, who is currently playing for his Indian Premier League franchise, the Kolkata Knight Riders, in the ongoing Champions League T20 in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. “The day will
come eventually when I'll retire from cricket and I don't know when that day is going to be, but I want to be a good leader to the guys coming through.
“I want to make sure that I pass a bit of a legacy and the never-say-die attitude.”
The left-armer made his international debut in 1999, and made a name for himself as a fiery pacer who could reach speeds of up to 160kph. Lee initially retired from Test cricket in 2010, in order to extend his career in the shorter formats of the game, and
officially called time on a career that had spanned 13 years in July this year, by retiring from all forms of international cricket.
The 35-year-old, who finished with a stellar 310 wickets from 76 Tests, and 380 wickets from 221 ODIs, in addition to winning the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Allan-Robert-Border-c43726 Medal in 2008, suffered a series of injuries throughout his career, mostly owing to a troublesome elbow and ankle,
which led to several lay-offs. However, Lee insisted that despite his troubles with fitness, he never thought to compromise on speed.
“I don't want to bowl slow; I want to bowl as quick as I can. Bowling fast is all I've ever wanted to do,” he said.
Despite having retired from international cricket, Lee continues to play in domestic leagues around the world, such as the Indian Premier League (in which he is affiliated with the KKR), and the Australian Big Bash League (in which he plays for the Sydney
Sixers). Lee’s latest match was a CLT20 game for the KKR against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Daredevils – he claimed 1 for 19, but the Knight Riders went on to lose the match by 52 runs.
