Brett Lee ignores injury, sets sights on breaking McGrath’s record – Cricket News Update
Australian pacer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brett-Lee-c48419, has expressed his determination to continue playing, despite his foot injury, in order to take Glenn McGrath's number one spot on Australia's list of top one-day wicket-takers.
Lee was struck on his right foot by a ball, near the end of his bowling spell at the MCG, during his sides loss to India in the second T20 match in early February, which fractured his toe.
Despite having been ruled out of the Commonwealth Bank Series, and question marks hovering over the prospect of his participation in Australia’s tour of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, the tenacious 35-year-old made an earlier-than-expected comeback against Sri Lanka on
Feb 17th.
While Lee’s toe is not completely healed, he is undeterred, claiming he aims to play 'through the pain barrier'.
“I'm not keen to rest, period,” Lee said. “I've had enough rest in my life (due to injuries) and I'll rest when I finally hang the boots up.”
“I think that with my toe, it's very painful but you find a way to play through it and I think I'm past the worst of it. It's going to get better as each game goes on,” he stated, expressing a hopeful outlook.
This plan has worked well for Lee so far. His performance during Australia’s last match against India was impressive – the star bowler teamed up with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s batting order, taking 3 for 49 in his 10 overs. His bowling speeds reached
roughly 150kph, and he brought his total ODI wickets to 361.
“It's amazing what you can do when you have a chance to play for your country,” he said.
However, the desire to serve his country is not the only factor driving the fast bowler. He’s also within range of toppling Glenn McGrath’s record of 381 wickets from 250 matches, the highest ever taken by an Australian bowler in the one-day format.
His next chance to add to his ever-growing total comes this Friday, on February 24, as the Aussies prepare to take on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 at the Bellerive Oval, Hobart.
