Brett Lee praises captains Gambhir, Clarke – Cricket News Update
Involved with both the national Australian team and the Kolkata Knight Riders, pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/G-Gambhir-c1447 respectively, saying they backed their captaincy up with solid individual
performances.
“Gambhir is just brilliant. He is a born leader and it comes naturally to him. Besides he backs it up with strong performances and has been leading our flock really well,” Lee said regarding his Knight Riders’ skipper.
Gambhir, who was successor to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sourav-Chandidas-Ganguly-c90746 and Brendon McCullum as the Knight Riders’ skipper, has effectively managed to lead the team up to the 2nd spot on the tournament points table during the current ongoing 5th edition of the
Indian Premier League.
The team has won 7 of the 11 matches they have played, and despite some initial problems with a struggling batting order (which included the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/YK-Pathan-c2815), the skipper did not let
the team down, and his individual performances remained consistent throughout.
Gambhir has scored a total of 421 runs in the 10 matches he has played for the team so far, including an unbeaten 66, and a 93 which is his highest individual score in the current season so far – performances which earned him the admiration of teammate Lee.
The Aussie pacer, who came into the IPL 5 after wrapping up Australia’s limited-overs series against the West Indies, also expressed admiration for his national captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120, who successfully captained the side to a 2-0 Test victory in challenging conditions
against the West Indies.
“With http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 was a good sign and we should
be there (at the top) pretty soon.”
In addition to enabling the Aussies to rise up to claim the 3rd spot on the International Cricket Council’s Test team rankings, Clarke also impressed with individual contributions – his part-time spin came in handy as he claimed a 5 for 86 against
the West Indies during their last Test match at Roseau.
Lee, who has been benefitting from the captaincy of both skippers, is currently involved in the IPL, after which he is likely to be called back to national duty as the Aussies prepare to face off against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in a 5-match ODI series, due to begin on June
29 at Lord’s in London.
