Brett Morse and Ryan Spencer Jones to attend a training camp at Sweden
Two Welsh performers, Brett Morse, the rising discus thrower and Ryan Spencer Jones, the young shot putter, will be travelling all the way to Sweden to participate in a training camp run by some of the best coaches in the world.
If the word ‘practice’ is replaced by ‘training’ in the phrase ‘practice makes a man perfect’, it will stand completely true for athletics. And when it is about young and rising performers, the importance of training under the guidance of experienced coaches
becomes further crucial.
Lately, both Morse and Jones have left the spectators stunned by their performances, and the Welsh are perceived as apex level competitors in their respective disciplines in both senior and junior contests.
Given the skill level they have acquired, the said training sessions will definitely hone their athletic acumen further.
Morse, the 22-year old athlete has been a dominant performer for both senior and under 20 competitions right from the start of his career. He finished 12th in this year’s World Athletics championships final.
Morse will be trained by Vesteinn Hafsteinsson, the coach from Iceland who has also been a mentor to Gerd Kanter – the Olympic Champion.
For Morse, the training programme will be divided into three parts. As per the schedule, he will be spending his time in both, Wales and Sweden, while next year he will travel to America for a month.
During the first two weeks of training in Sweden, Morse will be joined by his countryman Ryan Spencer Jones.
Jones, the Welsh shot-putter is also travelling to Sweden to benefit from the presence of world class coaches, whose expertise may work for the athlete heading for the Olympic Games next year.
Besides Jones, another Welsh athlete who has opted for the training sessions in Sweden is the Cardiff javelin thrower Lee Doran, to be trained by the same mentor.
Doran, the Welsh javelin thrower, who bagged the Aviva UK Trials national championships for marking a personal best throw of 78.63m, is expected to make it to the Olympic Qualifying B standard rather easily. And for doing so, the present training visit will
definitely help him tremendously.
