Brett Myers’ pitching helps Houston Astros defeat Pittsburgh Pirates 4-1 - MLB Update

Houston Astros’ starting pitcher, Brett Myers pitched just over seven innings beautifully right through the game and had six strike-outs with an ERA of 4.66 in the Astros’ 4-1 victory against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park, Pittsburgh on September 6.
First inning was score-less as the batters seemed immobilised against the tricky throws of the pitchers. Astros’ centre-fielder Jordan Schafer struck-out while Jose Altuve and J.B. Shuck both grounded out towards pitcher without contributing even a single
run. Similarly, Alex Presley grounded out, Garrett Jones flied out and Andrew McCutchen fouled out without taking runs.
Astros posted two runs during second inning to get a convincing lead while Pirates were able to score one run to cut their deficit 2-1, at the bottom of second inning. Jimmy Paredes hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to second base and Carlos Lee added
the first run for Astros. Brian Bogusevic got out at second base when Lee stole second base.
The second run for Astros was taken by Paredes when Humberto Quintero hit a double-run shot to deep right-field. On the other side, Ryan Doumit hit a one-run homer (425 feet) towards right-centre to add the first run for the Pirates. The batters struggled
from the third to eighth inning and failed to post runs on the score-board.
At the bottom of sixth inning, Presley and Xavier Paul both grounded out to third base while Jones struck-out on an easy pitch. Pirates missed runs during the seventh inning when Neil Walker singled off to right-field but Derrek Lee lined out to centre-field
as Doumit flied out. Myers gave up one run, one homer, four hits and one earned run on his 92 pitches.
Myers said, “I just try to go out there and get quality starts. If I get a win, I get a win. I'm just trying to help this ballclub win games, but it's always good to get a win for myself, too.”
Speaking to reporters, Quintero said, “I'm happy because I know he hasn't won a lot this year and it's been tough for him. Maybe he'll start winning now and we'll see more wins next year.”
In the ninth inning, Bogusevic and Paredes both posted two collective runs to give the Astros a 4-1 lead when Quintero singled to left-centre. However, the Astros were able to tie the three-game series 1-1 after an exciting win.
