Brett Myers talks about recent outing against former team, Philadelphia Phillies – MLB Update
Brett Myers was involved in the Monday, September 12 game between the Houston Astros and his former team, Philadelphia Phillies. The 31-year-old pitched a gem of a game against his old team at the Minute Maid Park in Houston to lead the Astros to a 5-1 victory
over the National League leaders.
The hurler picked up the important victory in with eight innings of pitching. He took out four hitters with strike-outs. The player managed to concede just six hits, a run and a ball to the position.
"I just tried to keep the ball down in the zone as much as possible," Myers said. "They know me pretty well, and I feel like I know them pretty well, too. They hit some balls hard right at guys. Overall, it was a good night. They're a very smart team with
the way they're able to pick up pitches and stuff like that.”
Myers has gone 5-13 in the season, so far but he has not lost a game in the last four fixtures. He has appeared on the mound from the bullpen on one occasion but he stands now on his first back-to-back victories. The player may go up with a winning streak
if he keeps his head down, like he did on Monday.
Phillies lost Myers on January 10, 2010, when he signed on with the Houston club as a free agent. He has been a formidable opponent ever since. At the moment, his 2-0 stint with an ERA of 1.64 is raising a lot of eyebrows in the Astros’ management. If Myers
maintains consistency in his next few games, he may become a regular feature on the pitching rotation.
Myers presence in the Astros’ line up adds considerable depth to their pitching strength. His tremendous performance against the Phillies is a testament to the fact that he is at the top of his pitching game. It will be interesting to see how Myers is able
to carry his winning momentum forward into his next match-up.
