Brett Simpson and Joel Parkinson prevail in Round 3 of Rip Curl Pro Search – 2011 ASP World Tour
The crowd got treated to a heavy dose of thrilling action as America’s Brett Simpson squared off with Australia’s Julian Wilson in the ninth heat, whereas Australia’s Joel Parkinson took on his compatriot Chris Davidson in the tenth heat of Rip Curl Pro Search San Francisco’s Round 3 that went down on Wednesday, November 2, at Ocean Beach in San Francisco, America.
Simpson came up with an outstanding performance in the ninth heat to clinch victory and advance through into Round 4 while bringing the competition to a premature end for his rival, Wilson.
The tenth heat turned out to be pretty one-sided as Davidson failed to offer any solid challenge to Parkinson, allowing the latter to walk away with top honours and move into the next round. The defeat resulted in Davidson elimination from the competition.
The first round of the latest elite tour event had not gone well for the 26-year-old Simpson, but he had managed to make the amends with an outstanding Round 2 performance. Entering the third round, he found himself pitted against the dangerous ASP World Tour rookie, Wilson, in a battle for the Round 4 spot.
With high performance waves on offer, the ninth heat kicked off. Wilson posted a 4.50 on the score-board with his first wave and soon went on to add an additional 6.00 to his account, moving to a heat-total of 10.50 points as a result.
Simpson got off to a slow start but eventually found his rhythm and initiated an onslaught in the final minutes of the heat. He threw down a strong of spectacular tricks on his first business-wave to earn 8.77 points and soon followed it up with an 8.20-point wave to take his heat-total to a decisive 16.97 points. The score sealed the fate of the contest in his favour.
The next heat saw Parkinson and Davidson take each other on in a battle for survival. Both the surfers looked to be in good form and the contest between them was expected to be nothing short of exciting.
However, it turned out to be a one-man show as Parkinson took control of the heat early in the heat with a 6.90-point wave, soon following it up with a 6.97-point wave to get to a heat-total of 13.87 points.
Davidson failed to find an adequate wave score and eventually finished the heat with a two-wave total of 6.50 points, which included a 4.33 and 2.17-point wave. The lacklustre performance resulted in his elimination from the competition while Parkinson advanced through into Round 4 comfortably.
