Brett Simpson looking to begin 2012 ASP World Tour with success at Snapper Rocks
American Brett Simpson is all pumped up to kick off his latest campaign for the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Title by making a solid impact during Quiksilver Pro at Snapper Rocks in Gold Coast, Australia.
The event, which is scheduled to run from February 25 to March 7, will be bringing together the top performers from the 2011 season and offering them a huge motivation to push themselves even harder this year.
The 27-year-old Simpson had made a solid impact at the opening event of the elite tour last year, clinching a fifth place finish, though he was unable to carry the momentum into the following events and eventually ended the tour in 19th place
on the ASP World Title Rankings.
In a recent interview with aspworldtour.com, Simpson admitted that the battle for the ASP World Title is going to be intense as the new talent has already announced themselves as a huge threat and are likely to put in an immense effort to get their hands
on the title.
The Californian-based natural-footer definitely has the potential to give the most intimidating of surfers a run for their money on his day and Snapper Rocks is known to bring out the best in him.
Commenting on the waves at Snapper Rocks and upcoming Quiksilver Pro, Simpson said, “It’s a wave I love to surf and that goes to show in the success I have had out there! You have to enjoy the wave and wanna do well! At this level it just doesn’t happen,
you can’t get away with that anymore, so every spot I go I try to get more in tune with the waves and learn to enjoy it.”
With the mid-year rotation deactivated by the ASP earlier this year, Simpson would definitely find himself under less pressure. However, that would hardly keep him from pushing hard during the World Title race as a consistent performance is vital to keep
oneself in contention for the World Title.
Simpson plans to compete in all stops of the 2012 ASP World Tour and is determined to settle for nothing less than a win.
