Brett Wetterich succeeds in Chitimacha Louisiana Open by one shot – Nationwide Tour News
The Nationwide Tour event of Chitimacha Louisiana Open being played at par-71, Triomphe Country Club came to an end on Sunday. The experienced Brett Wetterich emerged victorious after the final round concluded.
Wetterich played exceptionally well on all four days and looked in superb touch. The 37-year-old was long off the tee and his stats clearly show it. Wetterich had under-par rounds on all the four days which secured him his third Nationwide Tour victory.
The 37-year-old veteran carded a final round of two-under par, 69 which was enough for him to lift the Championship trophy. He was a bit wayward as was playing under final day’s pressure. His score card had five birdies and two bogeys. The three drop shots
came on hole numbers 3, 13 and 14. Wetterich had a total four day score of thirteen-under par, 271 and was one shot clear of his nearest competitor.
After finishing the final round, the pleased winner said, “I love this place. This course just fits me perfectly. This is a great feeling. I can't be any happier. I held in there the last two days but it certainly wasn't easy.”
Brett finally ended his seven year title drought. His last victory playing on this Tour came at Envirocare Utah Classic in 2004. Wetterich has also enjoyed playing in the USA team of Ryder Cup in 2006.
Andres Echavarria started his final round in style. It was the first hole par-5 where he made an eagle. His approach shot to the green was almost perfect which rolled just inside a couple of feet from the hole. Andres only had a single bogey and three birdies
on his card. He managed to put up a great fight with a score of four-under par, 67 but was just one shot behind the winner.
Bubba Dickerson also had a rather steady day. He managed to squeeze a round of two-under par, 69 and secured the third position. Dickerson had a four day score of eleven-under par, 273 and was just two behind the champion Brett.
The best round of the day belonged to John Kimbell. He looked in excellent shape and made a great jump on the score board after the final round concluded. Kimbell posted a fantastic round of ten-under par, 61. One can definitely say that it was his day as
he was also lucky on a few occasions. He had an eagle, nine birdies and a single bogey on his card. The only lost stroke was on tough par-3, 3rd where he hit an extra club. This was the best round of his career and will certainly remember it for
a long while.
Kimbell finished tied at the fourth spot. He shared the spot with Carl Paulson and Rich Barcelo.
Wetterich grabbed the coveted trophy along with the winner’s cheque of US $ 99,000.
