  1. The quickest and easiest way to brew beer or wine is to buy it in a kit from Boots or some other similar outlet.

If your local one doesn't stock it, have a look on the web for the nearest supplier of home brewing kits. They all come with complete instructions, the most important thing in brewing is complete sterilisation of equipment, otherwise you can end up with gallons of vinegar.

Some of them can be ready in a couple of days, there are some other methods for better quality results but they take longer.

Your only legal requirement is that you cannot sell it.

  2. If you are going to brew, do it right. Start with a book on brewing such as Papazian's opus, New Complete Guide to Home Brewing. Read the first 42 pp, then go to http://byo.com and click on Reader Resources. That will give you links to catalogs. Order your equipment and supplies. Brew an all-extract ale first. That will be the easiest and most forgiving. After that, you can work your way up to more complicated recipes. You may also want to frequent the local home brew shop nearest you. There, you can get good advice along with your supplies.

  3. home brew kits are the easiest

you can brew in plastic airtight containers, non-preservative fruit juices are actually simpler to make alcohol from that beer.  Its not a QUICK process though.  It can take 2-4 weeks to brew a batch of beer/cider/wine.  as for how long they can keep... most let their beers/ciders "mature" for a few weeks after bottling to get better flavor and to generate CO2 if they want that.

I made my 1st batch actually in a 1-gallon applejuice container, drilled a small hole in the lid, and stuck a tube in there, that i ran down to an bottle with water inside for a make-shift airlock.    basically with that setup, all i did was throw some yeast in the container and sealed it.

go to youtube, there are tons of instructions with makeshift alcohol brewing, some with ballons on top for an airlock, unfortunately i am at work, and youtube is blocked, or i would give you some links. just search for "home brewing" or "home made alcohol"
