Question:

Some men want to open a beer brewery across the street from my church (about 75 feet away). Isn't this illegal? I live in Maryland. What are the laws of producing alchohol that close too a church? How far away does it have to be?

  1. Not illegal to be close to a church, a school maybe...

What a brilliant idea - a little after-church session to forget all that you'd learned.

  2. Not sure, but I know in some churches wine (fermented just like beer) is used so I don't think anything is illegal about it, unless you live in a dry county. Thomas Jefferson was quoted as saying something like "Beer is proof that God loves us".

  3. why is this a problem to you? theyre not asking the people in the church to drink. they are simply utilizing the space to make it for other people.  it is illegal to be close to a school definitely.  but not everyone in the world is religious so i dont think it would be fair for the town to say that.  the church is supposed to be viewed as just another legitimate business to the state- i think that would be illegal, to favor the church.

the only way to stop them would be to petition it and serve it to the town council, they will have to get a permit and won't get it if there is enough opposition, good l uck.

  4. i thought there was laws only of constructing close to a school because of the underage....but next to a church ive never heard of that one

  5. Differnt States have different zoning laws.

I doubt that any State would allow that.

But if you see construction going on,  your State has a very loose zoning law( if any).

  6. Every city, county & state has it's own regulations and restrictions.......this is a question to ask your City Council.  Although, the brewery needs to apply for licensing, and would be turned down if it IS illegal for them...... You might need to circulate a petition among the neighbors and congregation, and bring the matter up to your City Council........

  7. I always listen to Mayor Adam West. He's the man.

    Just a little addition:

Why do you have a problem with mixing beer and the church? After all, the earliest breweries WERE PART of the abbey, or church. Alcohol and the church have a long history together, it's only in recent times that people seem to feel the need to pry all the fun out of religion. Remember a little story about someone turning water into WINE? I'm pretty sure it wasn't non-alcoholic wine.

  8. i don't know, but there is nothing immoral about beer. it is not going to bring in a bad element, just maybe a few jobs

  9. Legal or not, I'm sure it won't stop you god squad freaks from crying about it to anyone who'll listen.

  10. Probably not. If they're going to open a brewery (and not a brewery/pub) then you're in or very close to a commercial/industrial area. You can't prevent people from engaging in manufacturing just by moving your church near it.

And don't forget that JC was a master winemaker. Remember, he turned water into wine at some wedding, and apparently made some d**n good wine.

  11. I'm confused...are you asking because you are curious or because you have a problem with beer?

To answer your question...Probably not, but as said before it all depends on local regulations and restrictions.

If you are asking from a moral stand point...what is wrong with beer? Our civilization as we know it was founded around beer. Our countries greatest battle for independence was fought for beer and it is the healthiest of all alcoholic beverages. You've asked your question in the wrong forum, BWS is full of supporters and educators on alcohol...not abstainers.
