Question:

Brewing tea...?

I have hardly ever brewed tea before but now I drink Passion Tazo tea like non stop. At Starbucks the Shaken Passion Iced Tea Lemonade is really good and I'm trying to make it at home. How much water should I put one bag of Passion tea? And if I was going to make hot tea and turn it into iced tea do I need to steep the tea longer? If you worked at Starbucks it would really help!

  1. I don't work at Starbucks, but you don't have to make hot tea first.  Just put the tea bag in a pitcher or bottle of water and it will steep in the fridge, on the counter, or outside.  Since you can get more than one cup of tea from a tea bag, you can certainly make it stronger by letting it steep longer (or boiling the tea bag and the water together in the microwave like I do - be careful of exploding water) but it tends to get bitter.

However you make the tea, real tea is made with boiling water, not something out of the coffee machine in a restaurant.

    Sounds good.

  2. Bring fresh cold tap water to a full, rolling boil.

Use one teaspoonful of tea or one tea bag per 5-ounce. cup of water.

Poor the boiling water over the tea.

    Brew 3-5 minutes.

If you prefer your tea less strong, add more water after the brewing period.

    For the Best Iced Tea:

Follow the directions for making hot tea, but use 50% more tea to allow for melting ice. For example, use 4 tea bags to make 4 cups of hot tea, but 6 tea bags to make 4 glasses of iced tea.

For a two-quart pitcher, add 15 tea bags or 1/5 cup loose tea to 1 quart of freshly drawn cold water brought to a full boil.

Stir and let stand 5 minutes.

Stir again and remove the tea bags or strain into a pitcher containing 1 quart of freshly drawn cold water.

Stir again and remove the tea bags or strain into a pitcher containing 1 quart of freshly drawn cold water. Linda for Bigelow
