Brian Baker gearing up for 2013 season – Tennis News
American contender, Brian Baker, is looking for a better upcoming season. He is currently training hard in the off season and is in great shape.
The 27-year-old enjoyed his career best season in 2012 after he reached his career best rank of number 52 after reaching the second week at the Wimbledon Championships. He also secured a final berth at the Open de Nice in France before losing to Nicolas
Almagro.
Baker is currently training hard for the upcoming season. He practiced on the Floridian courts before spending 10 days with Todd Martin in Ponte Vedra. Currently, the veteran is heading towards Saddlebrook where he will workout with his compatriots including
Robby Ginepri, Bobby Reynolds and Tim Smyczek.
The American challenger was quoted in an interview, “I took a couple of weeks off and then I hit some in Nashville. Then the Sunday after Thanksgiving I left to go down to Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., and was there for about 10 days training. I did an exhibition
in Indianapolis, then flew down to Florida, but this time to Tampa at Saddlebrook.”
The American has played maximum number of matches this season. For last seven years, injuries forced him out from several tournaments but he got the breakthrough this year.
Baker reflected, “I definitely needed some time off after the year. It was a lot more matches and a lot more time on the road than I had experienced in the last seven years, so I definitely needed the physical break and the mental break from tennis.”
The American challenger displayed exceptional skills and managed to conquer the Savannah Challenger. He then cruised to the title-round in Nice and received a wild card entry for the French Open. Baker then went berserk at the Wimbledon Championships and
cracked the Top 100. He last played at the Swiss Indoors where he bowed out to second seed Juan Martin Del Potro in the pre-quarters.
Currently ranked 61st in the South African Airways ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) World Tour Rankings, Baker is included in the line-up at the Brisbane International, the Heineken Open and the Australian Open, first of the four Grand
Slam events held in Melbourne.
