Brian Billick to take coaching job if approached by Miami Dolphins – NFL News
The Miami Dolphins have potential candidates springing in for their head coach slot now currently occupied by Todd Bowles on an interim basis. One such candidate turns out to be a former coach of NFL, Brian Billick.
Billick made his intentions public while speaking to the Miami Herald on Thursday. He said that he was willing to show interest if approached for the job.
“Yeah. The Dolphins are a marquee franchise. But at the end of the day, it’s the structure of what they put together.” Billick said.
"It has to be a partnership between the head coach, general manager and ownership with a very specific vision. The Dolphins are probably a long way from formulating their plans."
He said that he had not been approached for the post but hinted that he may be in contact with some persons over there. Billick has also denied knowing the general manager Jeff Ireland. Billick has spoken to the Dolphins’ owner
recently but had no conversation regarding the coach’s job. He said that he met the owner in his office regarding a book which he wrote two years ago.
“He’s very impressive.” Billick said of the owner.
Billick is the former Head Coach of Baltimore Ravens and helped them win the Super Bowl in 2001. During his tenure, the Ravens managed to reach the playoffs four times. However, after they performed poorly in 2007 losing 11 games
that season, Billick was sacked. He was coach of the Ravens for nine years from 1999 to 2007 and left with a record of 80-64. He has also served as the offensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings for seven years.
The Dolphins fired Tony Sparano as the Head Coach last Monday and replaced him with former assistant and secondary coach, Todd Bowles for the remainder of the three games. Dolphins’ owner Stephen Ross had then spoken of the need
to be a “winning organization” and that it was the best time to go for a change. Ross said that they will try to acquire the “best head coach” and wanted someone who could work together with the general manager.
According to the Miami Herald, the Dolphins are also considering Steelers coach Bill Cowher and NFL coach Jeff Fisher for the post.
