Brian Cashman feels New York Yankees should focus more on pitching in post-season – MLB News
The New York Yankees will concentrate on their pitching in the off-season, the General Manager Brian Cashman stated on Tuesday, November 1 after signing a three-year $9 million deal with the club.
Due to lack of a perfect pitching combination, the Yankees had to leave the 2011 season during the American League Division Series. It has caused some thrill in the organisation to create new and promising pitching rotation for the 2012 season.
The Yankees do not have any problem with the batting camp, as the club already have some of the best hitter in baseball history, commented Cashman. The Yankees are equipped with Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Curtis Granderson, Robinson Cano and recently appointed
determine catcher Russell Martin. The club led the MLB with 222 home-runs while sitting on the second position in runs and RBIs after the Boston Red Sox.
This year’s World Series Champions, St. Louis Cardinals do not look interested to hold on to Albert Pujols for this year and it has brought the Yankees in line of his next possible team. Milwaukee Brewers’ Prince Fielder was also hoping to get a call from
the Yankees, but Cashman has ruled out all speculations with his small comment.
Cashman said, “As we enter the process this winter, I don’t anticipate a bat being of need at all. Our main focus and efforts are going to be to continue to support and reinforce the pitching rotation and bullpen.”
In his attempt to make the pitching depth stronger, Cashman has agreed with Carsten Charles Sabathia for a five-year $161 million deal on Monday. The next possible deal may be with one of these free agents including C.J. Wilson, Mark Buehrle and Hiroki Kuroda.
In the baseball circles, however Wilson is being considered as possibly going to the Yankees.
“Offense is not an issue that we’ll be focusing on,” Cashman said. “It will be the pitching. I feel our offense is very, very strong.”
Wilson played a 16-7 record with a 2.94 ERA for the Texas Rangers, the club that lost the 2011 World Series at the hands of the St. Louis Cardinals. However, it will be next season which proves the quality of all the strategies being implemented by the current
GM.
