Brian Cashman lines up pitchers, as Cliff Lee pursuit continues
The New York Yankees have started off their winter meetings in great fashion so far. General Manager Brian Cashman has solved most of the current squad problems, and it seems he has set his sights on bringing in key players to the roster for the coming season,
slated to start in April. Major teams in the American League and the National League are looking to land the best crop of players in the league, and while the race to sign the best stars continues managers are looking towards other options; and Cashman is
no different.
The GM recently said, "I've already met with one player and I intend to meet with another player, and I might actually jump out of this location to meet with another player. I've been very busy and we're ready to rock and roll, but regardless if something
happens or not, we have a good team already. We're just trying to add to it."
It’s understandable that the Yankees want to strengthen their squad for the future. Their top target is Cliff Lee, and while there is now word on an offer request, Cashman is pursuing other goals set by the board of directors. There have been confirmed reports
on Zack Greinke, who is being considered for a trade swap by the Kansas City Royals.
Nevertheless, the Yankees are more interested in landing left-hand pitchers at the moment, and Cashman has stated that the team’s focus will solely be on ball throwers this week. Andy Pettitte is closing in on his retirement, and it is doubtful if he will
start even if he does return. Cashman is planning to restructure the roster, nevertheless. His impression of pitching can be summed up with an analogy he came up with; it is like a car needing tires to move.
Brian told reporters, "Pitching is the key to the kingdom. If we can improve upon the pitching, great. Obviously, we've been in the situation where we've decided we can't, so you ramp up the offence even more so. I've been there and done that, and I'm not
afraid to do that again. I like what we have.” He added that though his main focus was pitching, but that he would have to look at other aspects of the team in order to succeed in  the long term.
