Brian Cashman makes crucial moves to power New York Yankees pitching lineup – MLB News
New York Yankees has traded a large number of players this season to power their pitching lineup. Last season, the Yankees pitchers were completely outclassed in the playoffs. A few days ago, Yankees’ General Manager, Brian Cashman traded Jesus Montero for Michael Pineda.
Montero showed his sensational talent last year to help the Yankees secure memorable wins. However, Cashman had to send him to Seattle Mariners as a part of his rebuilding project. In an interview with a leading sports website, Cashman stated that Jesus Montero is the best player he has ever traded in his career.
“I was in shock,” Montero said on a conference call. “I thought that was never going to happen, but it happened for real. I’m really happy over here. It’s a new opportunity. I’ve got to take advantage of it.”
“We stretched the payroll to get [the Kuroda deal] done, so I’m not sure what we have financially,” said Cashman.
Even Montero himself is very surprised at the move as he wanted to be a part of New York Yankees. The Yankees also has an available DH slot in their batting line-up and Montero was expected to fill that. In addition to his hitting abilities, the guy can make useful contributions in pitching department of the game as well.
Montero added that he was in a shock when he learnt that he has been traded to Seattle Mariners. Nonetheless, he is expected continue his hard work to help the Mariners achieve their desired goals.
Cashman will be having high expectations from Michael Pineda, who was absolutely brilliant in his first ever big league season. With a decent 9-10 win-loss record, he grabbed opportunities with both hands during the past season.
Pineda said he was “beyond excited” in a statement: “I never thought I would become a New York Yankee so early into my career. This is the best thing in the world. Pitching alongside CC Sabathia, I’m speechless.”
The 23-year-old is very excited at becoming a full time Yankee as he always wanted to be the part of this club. Yankees, on the other hand, will be relying heavily on their pitchers to win the World Series title this season.
