Brian Cashman nea retirement, does not seek extension – MLB News
The New York Yankees’ general manager Brian Cashman has rejected the news reports that suggest he is seeking further extension as his contract expires on the July 31.
One of the reasons that is not openly acknowledged in the media is the differences that were developed between Cashman and the New York Yankees when he opposed the team's $35-million-dollar deal with Rafael Soriano.
Once the news somehow got to the press that he was unable to stop the deal and the differences were palpable, questions were raised if he still held any authority to exercise in decision making.
However, much as those pieces of news make rounds in the media, there were rumours that he may even extend his contract. Nonetheless, Cashman had laid a policy of avoiding extension during the season and he adheres to that to date.
Being the general manager of one of the baseball’s best teams in the history, Cashman has always hit the limelight for leading the operational assignments for over three years with a deal of 6-million-dollars.
"If I couldn't do it with Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter and [manager] Joe Girardi, how can I do it with myself," Cashman said. "I can't be a hypocrite. It will come up at the appropriate time."
Cashman has an enviably impressive credential for any eager aspirant of general manager. When the Florida Marlins won the World Series in 1997, Cashman was the driving force behind it.
After a decade, Cashman had instilled a winning-zeal into the Detroit Tigers that made inroads into the World Series, overwhelming the Yankees.
Once Cashman goes, it remains open to speculation who will replace him. However, the name that is coming to the surface is that of manager Joe Girardi.
Provided the Yankees do not go for any extension for the serving general manager Brian Cashman, the uncertainty of his future will further intensify.
Nonetheless, the big name that he has been and the winning combinations he has constructed since the beginning of his career as professional, it’s likely he will get a lot of bidders.
In his managerial position, if nothing else, this season’s statistics are a favourable read for the Yankees’ General Manager, Cashman.
In his tutelage, the Yankees now hold the third position in the world ranking with no less than 53 wins to their credit in the first half of the season.
Not only that, the team is only two games behind the Boston Red Sox in the AL Standings. Also, among other things, it was in his reign that Derek Jeter recently made a historic record of 3,000 hits.
