Brian Cashman’s comments may spread rumours of Alex Rodriguez’s trade to Miami Marlins–MLB Update
New York Yankees’ General Manager, Brian Cashman can cause the spread of rumours of the acquisition of Alex Rodriguez by the Miami Marlins due to his recent comments.
He has hinted that he will be excited to pay attention to the interests of other organisations in obtaining Rodriguez. Although he has discarded the possibility of his trade, he is open to the negotiations and to participate in the discussions pertaining
to Rodriguez.
A couple of days ago, the rumours surfaced stating that the Marlins will acquire the third baseman Rodriguez from the Yankees through a trade in exchange for their relief pitcher Heath Bell.
The speculations stemmed from the casual conversation between the Yankees’ president Randy Levine and the Marlins’ owner Jeffrey Loria. Many perceived that it included discussion about the future of Rodriguez.
Later, the Yankees’ officials denied that there had been any development made in this regard, clarifying that the informal meeting had nothing to do with the trade of Rodriguez.
Bell, who was first reported to be the part of the possible trade of Rodriguez, has now been sent to the Arizona Diamondbacks by the Marlins, which means that the rumours do not exist now.
Interestingly, the way Cashman has demonstrated that Rodriguez is not a super star for the team can lead to the regeneration of the rumours about his trade in the offseason.
"Do I expect him to return to the MVP-caliber type Alex Rodriguez? No," Cashman said. "Obviously you decline with age, and he's getting up there in his age. ... So no, that would be very unrealistic to think as well. But despite the age where he's at, he's
still an above-average player at that position. Is he a superstar at that position? No. But I think when anybody signed that (10-year, $275 million) contract (in 2007), expecting him to be at that level at that age would be unrealistic also."
This offseason is going to be exciting for the fans as the number of players who were previously the mainstay of their teams is on the brink of getting transferred to other clubs.
It will be interesting to see how the Yankees deal with Rodriguez as they make important announcements in the offseason.
