Brian Davis and Louis Oosthuizen share midway lead at the Shell Houston Open - Golf News
Brian Davis and Louis Oosthuizen carded flawless rounds on the second day of the Shell Houston Open to share the midway lead at the Redstone GC Tournament Course in Humble, Texas, before the officials called off the day due to bad light.
There were a total of 70 players who had yet to complete their respective rounds. Therefore, the second round will complete early on Saturday morning.
Davis started off his round at the back nine of the course and carded a birdie on the very first hole. Two other birdies on the 13th and 18th hole took him three-under.
He carded two consecutive birdies to start of his front nine followed by two others in the round to finish at seven-under par 65.
The Englishman said that after the demise of his father last year, he was really upset. Therefore, he was not able to focus on his game and went out of form.
However, he later changed his caddie and hired a psychologist to tweak his swing technique, which has now started to help him on the course.
"Probably the highlight of the offseason and to this season was taking a look at everything I did on and off the golf course," Davis said. "I think I'm more prepared going forward now this year".
According to Davis, his psychologist, Bob Winters, really helped him manage his time precisely.
"I really struggle when my kids say, 'Can we do this?' and I should be practicing," Davis said.
"It's hard to juggle that around. You've got to give yourself some time as well. Obviously, we looked over that at the end of the last year and changed my practice routines, changed a lot of things".
Meanwhile, Oosthuizen also had a similar round as he carded six birdies in his round to share the top position on the leaderboard.
Both the players have an 11-under par tournament score while other players have to finish their round.
The defending champion and overnight leader, Phil Mickelson, carded two-under par 70 to tie for the fourth position.
Lee Westwood is among the players who will continue their second round on Saturday.
