Brian Deegan considers 2011 to be the best year of his career
The American freestyle motocross (FMX) rider and founder of Metal Mulisha Brian Deegan has asserted that 2011 was the best year of his career in terms of competition.
Talking to a reporter from the leading news network ESPN, the 31-year-old Deegan said the previous year had raised the bar pretty high for him and presented him with quite a challenging benchmark to surpass. However, he will try to rise up to the challenge and repeat, if not maintain, his performance from previous year.
“2011 was the best year I've ever had as far as competing, hands down,” said Deegan. “It will be really hard to ever top the year I just had, but I'll be back in 2012 to defend all that stuff.”
The Nebraska-based rider had put on an outstanding performance at the RallyCross event of X Games 17 that went down in Los Angeles during the last week of August, 2011, to eventually walk away with the coveted gold medal.
The success at the unarguably biggest stage of action sports was not the only highlight of Deegan’s previous competition year. He showed off his short course off road racing prowess by walking away with top honours from both the Pro Lites as well as the Pro 2 truck racing classes on the 2011 Lucas Oil Off Road Series.
Deegan kept making his year memorable by emerging triumphant in Borgwarner’s World Championship Off Road Race at Crandon International Off Road Raceway in Wisconsin.
The eighth round of EllisMania that went down In Las Vegas, Nevada, in September saw the FMX pro prevail over the BMX legend Dave Mirra in what was nothing short of a truly epic title match.
Deegan also shared the spotlight with the FMX legend Travis Pastrana while competing in the Race of Champions and later announced his plans to compete in the 2012 Monster Jam monster truck series.
The previous year had indeed been a glorious one for Deegan. While he is determined to defend the titles that he has earned in 2011, he is also looking to turn his attention to filming FMX features, which he considers as the core of the sport.
