Brian Deegan to compete in Global RallyCross Championship’s third stop under Ford’s banner
The freestyle motocross (FMX) legend, Brian Deegan, announced on Thursday, 12th April, that he will be representing Ford Racing in the inaugural Global RallyCross Championship as well as any other competition that he competes at in the future.
The 36-year-old from Bellevue, Nebraska, will be getting behind the wheel of a Ford Rockstar Metal Mulisha Fiesta in June at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Colorado Spring, Colorado, where the last of the three races of Global RallyCross Championship
is scheduled to be held.
“We'll do a test before Pike's Peak, but the altitude makes it tough to get the cars even working right. But the Olsberg MSE guys really have the Ford Fiesta dialled in, so we have an advantage. It'll be a good stepping stone for X Games,” said Deegan.
He will then head off to X Games 17, which will be held from 28-31 July in Los Angeles, to participate in the rally events.bAfter the X Games, the Bellevue-based professional freestyles rider will move on to the Lucas Oil OffRoad Series where he will be
piloting a Ford Raptor in short-course Pro 2 races. The season is indeed quite busy for Deegan.
Racing for Fords is nothing new for the legendary FMX legend. He had piloted Ford in the past as well. However, the freshly deal that he has signed with the motor company adds additional events and discipline than before, with the Global RallyCross series
as the most prominent. Though there would be a definite increase in challenge for the legendary action sports athlete now, he is not the least bit worried and is in fact looking forward to making a heavy impact in the race next month.
“When I had the chance to try rally at X Games, I was excited because it's a new challenge and a new opportunity,” said Deegan in an interview “After seeing how I did last year with half a day of testing, I know I have what it takes to win [on the Global
RallyCross series].”
However, the American rider understands that the race will be much tougher while competing against the Europeans in the RallyCross. According to him, they are set up perfectly for corners, are very precise and don’t make a lot of hiccups during the competition.
They take the riding to an entirely new level and one needs to be at his best while going against such a competition.
Deegan may be projecting the European rally racers as very intimidating, but he himself is a formidable force to be reckoned with. He has managed to earn himself a reputation of being legendary in FMX because of his skills and accomplishments. He has participated
in X Games as a Moto X athlete every year since 1995 and has 8 X Games medals till now. He became the first person to land a 360 during a competition in 2003.
Watching Deegan in action at Pike’s Peak will indeed be a treat, as the legendary FMX takes other riders on in an unconventional battlefield on 17-18 June.
