Brian Huggett achieves the award of Honorary Life Membership of the European Tour
Brian Huggett served golf for more than half a century, and received an award of Honorary Life Membership of The European Tour.
The 75-year-old Welsh professional golf player has recorded many victories and amazing finishes in his career. Hence, the European Tour officials offered him the lifetime membership of the tour.
He is also the most impressive player of the Ryder Cup that is staged after every two years. On the other hand, his 29 professional wins are also impressive and honourable.
He turned professional in 1951. Soon after becoming a professional player, he recorded many amazing results till 1962. Then he started his winning career and won 14 European circuit events.
In 1965, he was the runner-up at the US Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. Huggett is also known for winning the two European Tour staged events, the Portuguese Open in 1974 and the B.A./Avis Open in 1971.
In the meanwhile, he also competed well for the titles of the Singapore International, Sumrie Clothes Better-Ball and Welsh Professional Championship.
In 1992, he started his winning career at the European Senior Tour and created history. He won 10 tournaments there and was the most appealing player of all time.
His Ryder Cup European Team appearances were amazing. He competed well against the Americans and made his teams position strong in 1963, 1975 and 1977.
“This is a big honour for me to receive the Honorary Life Membership of The European Tour. At 75 I thought I had missed out so it is very special for me, especially as it has come from the players and the board,” Huggett said.
“I’d like to thank the Chairman Neil Coles who is a great friend of mine and it is nice that they have recognised me and I am delighted. I’ve had a good innings, not only on the main Tour but on the Senior Tour too”.
“Winning the Senior Open was a thrill and one of the highlights of my career but I’ve had so many, especially in The Ryder Cup over the years”.
In 2010, he was also present at The Celtic Manor Resort and served the Ryder Cup as an ambassador of the golf course. It is also expected that he will be a part of the mega event in the current year as well.
