Brian Jeroloman acquired by the Pittsburgh Pirates – MLB News
The Pittsburgh Pirates have decided to bring Brian Jeroloman, a catcher belonging to the Toronto Blue Jays, into the team to give their line-up some depth.
The announcement came after the Pirates also decided to remove Matt Pagnozzi from the 40-man roster. The moves are aimed at protecting the players before December 8, which is the last day for Draft.
Jeroloman brings an impressive performance statistics with him once he commences the Major League Baseball season next year. His base-percentage, which stands at .378, is considered to be a strong facet of the career he has.
Brian holds a .245 average in the Minor League while 2011 catching for Triple-A Las Vegas in 79 games had a record of .240 with 26 RBIs to his credit and two homers. This statistics and his overall performance caught the attention of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Pirates’ general manager Neal Huntington is of the view that his team likes the diverse ability of Jeroloman, with the highest walk rates, making him a strong and understandable choice for the team.
"He had a bad year in Triple-A, which is why he found himself on waivers," Pirates’ general manager Neal Huntington said. "We've liked [his] catch-throw [ability] in the past. He's got among the highest walk rates among all catchers in Minors.”
Considering the fact that he has a .992 fielding percentage, he is all the more suited to be the part of the Pittsburgh Pirates roster. His record speaks for itself, as he is a tremendous player with an immense amount of talent, something the Pirates are
currently looking for.
The Pittsburgh Pirates could not qualify for the post-season in 2011. However, this year was particularly reassuring for the Pirates because they, for the first time since 2004, were able to win over 70 games. Nonetheless, they still have a disappointing
record of 19 consecutive losing seasons in Major League Baseball.
It will be interesting to see what type of impact Jeroloman has in the Pirates line-up, as the team will be looking to him for some dynamic play and consistent performances.
