Brian Lara appointed as Zimbabwe’s batting consultant for pre-World Cup preparations
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 cricket has signed the legendary left-handed batsman from the Caribbean, Brian Lara as a batting consultant ahead of the ICC World Cup 2011, which gets underway in the Subcontinent on February 19, 2011.
The West Indies legend, who holds the Test world record score of 400 runs, was confirmed as technical adviser for Zimbabwe following a brief spell with the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Southern-Rocks-c845 in Zimbabwe’s national Twenty20 league competition in the later part of 2010.
The 41-year-old is in West Indies these days to attend the funeral service of his mentor Joey Carew who passed away on Saturday. The funeral of the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 batsman and selector is set for Friday.
Lara, soon after attending the funeral, will leave for Dubai to join the 15-man Zimbabwe squad in their pre-World Cup preparations. Zimbabwe will play two practice matches as well in Dubai.
Zimbabwe will then head to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 to practice in the subcontinent conditions before starting their campaign on February 21 and the West Indies batting prodigy would be joining the squad there to help them continue their preparations at Indian venues from February 1.
The left-handed batting great from the West Indies will be working with national coach Alan http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Butcher-c48849 in preparing the squad for the esteemed World Cup event.
In the meantime, Zimbabwe have announced their 15-member World Cup squad; all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hamilton-Masakadza-c61354 failed to make the cut owing to his poor form. Masakadza scored a century in his maiden Test appearance against West Indies and was adjudged as 'Player of the Year' for 2009.
Commenting on the squad, the head coach said that the selectors have picked a balanced squad, which includes world class spinners as well as a batting line-up with decent depth.
Zimbabwe has been placed in Group A which also includes http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 before they kick-start their World Cup campaign against reigning defending champions Australia on February 21, 2011, in Ahmedabad in India.
