What Lara appreciated the most about the Indian batting maestro was his longevity, saying that the time Tendulkar will spend in international cricket, he will keep on scripting new records. Lara said that what he valued the most is the consistency in Tendulkar’s form and not the age could affect that.
“…his longevity in the game is something to be really appreciated. The time he will spend in the game, records are going to tumble," Lara said. “The fact that someone can be there from the age of sixteen and still at the age of thirty seven perform brilliantly is something that I cherish more than anything else," he added.

He stated, "He(Sachin) is our period’s Don Bradman. Forget the difference in averages with Bradman but whoever I have spoken to who have seen very old players in action, they believe that he [the Australian legend] would not have averaged 99 in today's cricket.”
Bradman, who died in 2001, averaged 99.94 in his 52-match Test career that saw him scoring 29 centuries and 13 fifties. While Sachin Tendulkar, since making his Test debut in November 1989, has so far played 174 Tests and averages 56.55 with a record number of 49 centuries.
