Brian Lara wants Chanderpaul to bat up the order – Cricket News Update
West Indian bating legend, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/S-Chanderpaul-c2390 to elevate himself up the order for the three Test-match series against England, starting on Thursday May 17.
The former Windies’ skipper believes that the experienced veteran should be batting at number three, which in turn will offer stability to the top-order.
“If he can be so consistent, why he wouldn't say, let me bat with some more experienced, talented players up the order. That's not only going to benefit him but it would help the team,” said Lara.
The 37-year-old veteran recently became the world’s number one Test batsman, following impressive outings against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, where he also reached ten thousand career runs. He is the second West Indian, apart from Lara, and only the fourth International
player to achieve the coveted land mark.
In his last series at home, Chanderpaul was in supreme touch, scoring 346 runs at an average of 57.67, including a ton and three half-centuries. However, his endeavours had little bearing on the eventual outcome, with the Kangaroos securing the Test series
by a 2-0 margin.
According to Lara, the expertise of a leading batsman should be utilized properly in order to beat the world’s number one Test team, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
"If your best batter is coming in at five, repairing damage, I don't understand the logic in it," said the Prince of Port-Of-Spain.
He further said that the team is young and inexperienced, but the potential it posses is sufficient to impress the fans. Similarly, the addition of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 is also a good sign for the side – enabling to cope with pressure situations.
“It is a pretty young team but it is one that has something in it that could go forward. I have a funny feeling that we are going to impress you over this summer,” he suggested.
The Windies clearly are seen as underdogs against England but will be hoping to perform well after surprising everyone with their battling efforts against the Aussies at home. Their track record in English conditions is poor, with their last victory coming
in 2000.
