Brian Locke seals a victory at the PGM-MIDF-KLGCC Masters
Brian Locke fired a five-under par 66 in the final round of the weather-shortened PGM-MIDF-KLGCC Masters, to secure his first victory on the Asian Development Tour, on Sunday, November 11, 2012.
The tournament was being played at the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club, offering a prize purse of approximately US$ 60,000 to the participants.
Locke, who was playing in his second tournament on the Asian Development Tour this season, dominated the field right from the beginning of the event.
Earlier this season, he missed out on the chance of earning his Asian Tour card at the Qualifying School.
Following this victory, he now hopes to make a successful attempt on securing his card for the 2013 Asian Tour season, when he tees off at the 2013 Qualifying School.
“I decided not to go to the PGA Tour Q-School because I’m young and I want to travel the world a bit. I think the Asian Tour provides an overall travelling experience,” he said.
He added, “I’ve been in the states my whole life and I decided I wanted to play the three final three ADT events. I hope I have full status on the Asian Tour next year”.
Talking to the Asian Development Tour’s official website, he also stated that the victory was the biggest of his career.
He said that he won five tournaments in the United States. However, his maiden victory in Asia was special to him, as he contended against some of the best players in the region.
Talking about the course conditions, he said that the layout of the East course supported the participants to post low scores.
“I’m still new in Asia but I hit the ball good and my game was in a good place. This is a really nice golf course and the conditions were very good, which made it easier to score,” he said.
Hsu Mong-Nan, who carded a two-under par 69 in the final round, finished second in the tournament. It was the Taiwanese’s second runner-up finish on the Asian Development Tour this season.
James Byrne of Scotland and Taiwanese Chang Tse-Peng, in the meantime, shared the third spot on the leaderboard.
