Brian Marwood admits Manchester City have been handed a great Champions League Group
Brian Marwood has gone on to admit that Manchester City have been handed a brilliant set of teams to face off against in the group stages of the Champions league.
Following the conclusion of the Champions League qualifiers, the draws for the group stages were made yesterday. Manchester City were pooled in Group A and are now set to face off against Bayern Munich, Villarreal, Manchester City and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003. This group
is being hailed as the group of death and is going to be a real test for City, considering it is just their first ever season in the Champions League.
However, despite that fact it seems like City are more than looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead of them.
Marwood when talking about the grouping is reported to have said:“It is a fantastic group we have been drawn in, there are four fantastic sides in there”
He then went on to admit that this group was going to be extremely competitive for City, but they had a very strong possibility of coming out on top, once the group stages came to an end.
“It is going to be extremely competitive, we know that. When you look at all the groups, I genuinely believe there are four teams here that can compete for the top two places on a very even keel.”
He then went on to admit that being in the Champions League for City, was them making history for the team and as a result they were hoping to produce some of the best results possible and make a name for themselves in Europe.
“Other people are the ones who need to decide if it’s the most exciting group, we feel first and foremost that it is fantastic part of Manchester City’s history to be here for the first time ever in the premier European competition.”
At the end of last season, many had thought that City wouldn’t be able to compete with the best in Europe when they made it to the Champions League this season.
Nonetheless, the Manchester based club has gone on to make a number of brilliant signings in the summers and they now possess some of the best players in the world. Should the team manage to create a sense of synergy between their players, they could easily
go on and cause havoc on the European stage.
At the moment it is not certain as to how City will perform, but it would be a foolish mistake to count them down and out right now.
