Brian Maurer looking forward to returning to the PGA Tour
The Richmond native Brian Maurer is confident to return to the PGA Tour through the qualifying tournament for the Greenbrier Classic on Monday, July 2, 2012. He made it to the qualifier through a pre-qualifier held on Thursday, June 28, 2012.
Maurer is a Richmond High School graduate and has a history of helping his college team, Red Devils, win the state title.
In 2011, he qualified for the John Deere Classic for the first time in his career and missed the cut after two rounds.
Yet, he managed to record some memorable moments, including an amazing eagle during the opening round that helped him finish one-over par for the day.
Right after participating in his maiden PGA Tour event, he recorded a victory in the Indiana Open. However, he will not return to defend the title this year.
“The emotions I felt last year at that tournament (the John Deere Classic), I have to take another crack at it,” Maurer said. “It meant too much to me to pass up again”.
He said, “... The last couple of years, this is the time of the year I normally play pretty well. As to why that is, I have no idea. It must be the hot temperatures. I must like it when it’s hot”.
Thereafter, he planned to keep on trying to earn berths in the PGA Tour events. “It’s what I play this game for,” Maurer said. “Anybody who does anything wants to get to the top level”.
He is also scheduled to participate in the qualifier for this year’s John Deere Classic, slated to start from Thursday, July 12, 2012.
“There are a lot of different scenarios. I’m kind of taking it one step at a time,” he said. “If I take care of what I’m supposed to on Monday, I’ll worry about the rest later”.
While talking to the media, he told that he has the ability to repeat history and appear in the PGA events once again.
Moreover, he is confident to make a better run this time and be a part of the events in the final two rounds too.
