Brian McCann excited after Atlanta Braves exercise option on him for 2013 regular season-MLB Update
Ever since Atlanta Braves announced the utilisation of their option on Brian McCann, the mood of the catcher has boosted immensely.
Earlier he was dull and down for being unable to lift his team in the season. As he went through shoulder surgery, he was concerned that whether the Braves will retain him for the 2013 Major League regular season.
His fears stemmed from the fact that he was declining with regard to his offensive capabilities. He was a disappointment throughout the season.
In short, the Braves have every reason to believe that McCann struggled to such an extent that he can force the team officials to begin searching for replacements.
In spite of all the apprehensions, Atlanta considered it plausible to give McCann another chance, handing him the challenge to prove himself in the upcoming season.
The confidence that the Braves have shown in McCann has multiplied his motivational level, making him work harder to get through the rehabilitation process and perform at his potential in the next season.
Before McCann put up unimpressive shows at the plate, he was rated as a strong contender to succeed Chipper Jones in the line-up of the Braves. The experts maintained that once Jones leaves, he will take over as the best slugger in the team.
In light of this, McCann has an opportunity to deliver consistent shows and reignite the hype that he is a genuine successor of Jones.
Talking about his recovery from the surgery, McCann banks on the positive response of the physical therapist, Lloyd van Pamelen, to grow optimistic and believe that he can return to baseball sooner than expected.
“Everything, from what he’s telling me, looks really good,” McCann said. “I’ve never had surgery, so it’s hard for me to compare it to anything. But I’ve always healed pretty quick. I feel good about where I’m at, being two weeks out of surgery I feel really
good.”
McCann takes confidence from the fact that in the past he recovered rapidly on most occasions. Thus, getting hopeful this time around is not unrealistic for him.
The most important task for McCann ahead is to start playing regular baseball as soon as possible and if not in Spring Training then join the starting line-up during the 2013 regular season.
