Brian McCann stands out as Atlanta Braves beat New York Mets 3-2 - MLB Update
Catcher Brian McCann returns to form as he leads the Atlanta Braves to a 3-2 win against the New York Mets at Citi Field, New York on September 9, 2012 in the last game of the three match series.
With the score tied, both the teams played an extra inning. The man who earlier struck a homer for the Braves stepped up again for the team. McCann managed a sacrifice fly and sent a base-runner aboard in the top of the tenth. McCann was the main architect
of the victory for Atlanta on Sunday.
He came across four at-bats. As McCann hammered one hit, he contributed two RBIs in the match.
McCann has been struggling with an injury. For the same reason, he has not appeared in the line-up regularly. Realising that he has issues with his shoulder, the Braves’ manager Fredi Gonzalez has decided to lighten burden on him. The replacements that are
available on the roster will be brought into use by the manager more often now.
However in light of the fact that McCann showed power at the plate on Sunday, Gonzalez will be pleased. He will hope that the catcher keeps performing in a similar fashion in the upcoming games.
Tommy Hanson started for the Braves on Sunday. In little more than five innings he allowed two runs. He struck-out five and yielded four hits.
"I felt really good about this start today," Hanson said. "We came up here and took care of business."
Relief pitcher Craig Kimbrel secured the win in the match by completing the ninth inning scoreless. It is not for the first time that Kimbrel came during the penultimate innings and stopped the opposition from scoring runs and brought win for the team as
a result.
Atlanta’s third baseman Chipper Jones is happy with the appreciation he has received in the New York. The Mets’ fans that have seen their team tormented by Jones for years are now respecting him as he goes through his last Major League season of the career.

"Can't say enough about the fans in New York this year. They've been awfully supportive both in person, out on the field, on Twitter," Jones said. "I'm very appreciative to them for that."
The Braves will be satisfied with their current success in the season. They will be making sure their players keep putting up better performances during the crucial games ahead.
