Brian McCann will be part of the Atlanta Braves’ line-up soon - MLB Update
Suffering from illness and missing out number of games as a result, catcher Brian McCann is all set to return and resume the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. McCann has been excellent on the plate and has led the Braves to victories with home-runs
on more than one occasion.
His outage from the line-up had affected the Braves’ performance immensely.
Therefore, the management wants him to join at the earliest. The fact the Braves are lacking momentum and experiencing humiliating losing steaks, the team desperately needs someone who can unleash fireworks during the middle part of the game.
McCann has done this job successfully. For all the games he played, the Braves’ offence dominated National League. With six home-runs and 24 RBIs in the season, he has made significant contribution in total runs, the Braves have accumulated.
Most probably, McCann will play on Monday. However, when it was asked from the manager Fredi Gonzalez, he put everything on McCann and stated that if he is okay, then he will have no hesitation in giving him the go.
“It may be better off until Tuesday,” Gonzalez said. “I told him ‘If you come in tomorrow and you feel good, let’s give it a shot. If we get five or six innings that’s three at-bats we get out of you.’”
Possibility of his comeback on Tuesday instead of on Monday cannot be ruled out. In case, he is unable to work out flu-like symptoms and deems it fit to rest for few more games, he will not be pushing his way forward forcibly.
McCann is optimistic that he will be in the park soon.
“(I’ll do what) I’ve been doing this whole time I’ve been down – wake up and hope for the best,” McCann said. “I’m going to show up here tomorrow and hopefully get in there.”
McCann is an important player. Risking a long-term injury by making a hurried return into the line-up is something the Braves cannot afford at this juncture.
One will hope that the manager knows his condition well and will take appropriate steps to ascertain that he comes back only when he is ready to spark.
