Brian McCann will stay in Atlanta Braves as they use option on him - MLB Update
Catcher Brian McCann has been retained for 2013 Major League regular season by Atlanta Braves as they announce that they have exercised the option on him.
The declaration is surprising in the context that McCann went through a surgery recently, which may keep him away from baseball activities for a number of months. The move can be considered riskier one as McCann did not impress much in the recently concluded
regular season with his bat.
To many, it may seem that McCann is on the path that leads toward the conclusion of his career due to poor form.
After he performed well in the last few years, he was far from his best in 2012 regular season. He could not produce the kind of home-runs at the plate that he is capable of.
His reputation as a quality slugger for the team has been affected badly after he floundered all through the season and posted an unimpressive batting average.
The Braves have shown faith in McCann despite the fact that they own a reliable catcher on the roster. David Ross can prove to be a fine replacement of McCann.
Ross demonstrated his talent in the one-game playoff that the Braves played against the St. Louis Cardinals.
Ross struck a mammoth home-run in the match while giving an epic justification of why he was preferred over McCann by the team.
The fact McCann’s surgery can affect his power indicates further that the Braves have not made an ideal move by invoking his option.
It is not certain yet as to when McCann will be ready for playing proper baseball. As per the reports, he may have to miss the initial phase of the upcoming season.
At the moment, McCann will be h**l-bent to live up to the confidence of the team officials. He will be looking to complete the rehabilitation process at the earliest and restore his power at the plate.
While his credentials as a powerful hitter are doubtless, it remains to be seen as to for how long he takes to reach the peak of his form.
The Braves will be hoping that he recovers quickly from the surgery and begins playing regularly.
