Brian McCann’s double RBIs help Atlanta Braves defeat Seattle Mariners 5-4 – MLB Update
Atlanta Braves’ catcher, Brian McCann had a breathtaking day as he played a key role by hitting two RBIs in the Braves’ 5-4 victory against the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field, Seattle on June 28.
With this persuasive win, the Braves were able to win a three-game series 2-0 after a long span.
The Mariners took a 1-0 lead in the very first inning when Ichiro Suzuki struck a one-run homer (352 feet) towards right-field. It was considered as Suzuki’s first homer in the current season. The other batters got out after playing slothful shots at the
bottom of the first inning. During the second inning, the Mariners led off 2-0 when Miguel Olivo posted one run on the drive of Jack Cust to deep centre-field.
In the third inning, the Braves’ short-stop Alex Gonzalez flied out to centre-field and Nate McLouth popped out to first base. Similarly, Justin Smoak was struck-out swinging and Dustin Ackley grounded out towards first base. The Mariners advanced their
lead gradually as they got a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning when Cust homered (421 feet) to right-centre.
On the other side, the Braves opened their scoring account in the fifth inning and reduced the lead 3-1 when Dan Uggla hit a solo homer (409 feet) towards left-field. At the top of the sixth inning, the Braves scored one run to cut their deficit 3-2. Chipper
Jones hit a grounder off first base and Jason Heyward added one run.
The Braves’ batters stepped on the gas and posted three runs to extend their lead but the Mariners batters also scored one run during the seventh inning. Uggla contributed a single run when Jordan Schafer singled towards right-field while Eric Hinske and
McLouth added the last two runs for the Braves when McCann drove to right-field.
McCann commented on the game and said, “I had a feeling that Ichiro was going to try and steal third and we had the right play on throwing down to second. Looking at Kennedy I knew he was going to go just the way he was set up.”
Suzuki scored the last run for the Mariners when Ackley singled off centre-field but the Braves were leading with 5-4 at the end of seventh inning. In the last two innings, the batters struggled and got out as they were surprised with the mix-up throws of
the pitchers.
