The Reading boss has revealed that the club’s owner helped him to get over the 7-5 defeat at the hands of Arsenal, while adding that the Russian billionaire praised his side’s fighting spirit.
Reading suffered an extremely demoralising 7-5 defeat in their Capital One Cup game against Arsenal on October 31. In spite of taking a 4-1 lead in the opening half, the Royals struggled to put in a decent show after the break, and the Gunners ensured that
the match go into extra-time by netting three goals before the full time whistle.
Arsene Wenger’s men staged a brilliant show in the extra time to seal an impressive 7-5 triumph to progress through to the next phase of the competition.
The Royals head coach, Brian McDermott, has now revealed that the club owner, Anton Zingarevich, helped him a lot in getting over the defeat.
“I went out with the owner after the game. We had a chat and made a pact not to talk about it after midnight. So we talked about it up to then and then we stopped. The owner said the spirit in the side was fantastic and that some of the football we played
in that first half was some of the best we had seen”, McDermott was quoted as saying to BBC’s South Today Programme.
The Royals are the only English Premier League side along with Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314, who have yet to register a win in the 2012/13 campaign. Occupying the 18th spot on the league table, they are two points adrift of the safety zone with a game
in hand.
English media has been speculating that the 51-year-old tactician would be losing his post following his side’s abysmal performances thus far in the English top flight. However, the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 player has made it clear that he is never concerned about
his position.
“I am never concerned about my position. I just do the best I can and that will never change. I don't think this weekend is defining, the season is 30-odd games long”, McDermott concluded.
Reading will take on QPR in their upcoming league tie on November 4.
