Brian McDermott believes that Leeds Rhinos are in good form for play-offs: Rugby League
Brian McDermott, head coach for Leeds Rhinos, believes that his outfit is in a “good nick" after the 31-24 win against the Huddersfield Giants, on Sunday, September 11.
Leeds’ standing within the league ladder is fifth after Sunday’s game, which has left them in a good form for the Engage Super League play-off against Hull FC at Headingley scheduled for this Sunday.
While speaking about his team’s overall standing, Leeds’ coach added, “Taking the Harlequins game out, we’ve run some games together now – for a few weeks on the bounce – when we’ve been very strong. We’ve handled certain situations – the Challenge Cup final
being one. We backed up well against Wakefield and after this win I think we are in good nick.”
McDermott reckons that his team has passed through many hurdles, counting the Challenge Cup final’s experience along with yesterday’s win against the Giants very crucial for their good form just ahead of the Super League play-offs.
While speaking about finishing on the fifth spot within the league standings, McDermott added that, “The only difference between finishing fourth and fifth is we don’t get another bite of the cherry.I am bound to say this, but I am not really bothered. That
said, we are certainly going to have to play to a standard that we haven’t attained too often this year.”
Leeds coach also acknowledged that his team’s performance was brilliant at many instances within the year but the only loose end which can be altered easily is that his team lacked in consistent performance throughout the year. If Leeds improve on their
consistent form then they may even see themselves clinching the Grand final this year.
He further shared that if his team is aspiring to win the Grand final this year then all it needs to take account of, is to work on scaling up the level of the games played by them. If this loop hole is worked upon with vigilance, then the chances of marching
out victorious are abundant.
