Brian McDermott eyes Paul McShane, Liam Hood as Danny Buderus replacements
The Super League reigning Champions, Leeds Rhinos, are now without Danny Buderus at hooker’s on field position, who has returned to the land down under, Australia, after spending three years at the franchise.
Rhinos’ coach Brian McDermott reckons that Paul McShane and Liam Hood will be a fitting combination who can together fill up for the vacuum left behind by Buderus’ exit.
The 2012 will be well planned season for Rhinos with extra responsibility of defending their Super League title, on their shoulders.
Rhinos’ Boxing Day exhibition game against the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats highlighted Hood’s commendable performance, which wrapped up with their side’s 26-10 victory. It is believed that the duo will easily make up for their loss in form of Buderus’ farewell
which is still new to Leeds.
While answering the frequently asked question, Leeds’ coach said, “I have an idea who it could be but I haven't nailed it down yet. I often get asked how we replace Danny Buderus and the easy answer is you don't, so maybe we'll have two men try to do the
job that Bedsy did on his own. They have two very different styles. Hood is a darter out of dummy half while McShane has a lot more subtleties. They are both as effective as each other so we're blessed in that department this year.”
Apart from Buderus’ departure, the Rhinos have put up a great show which saw them claim their triumphant win at Headingley. Rhinos coach was definitely depending on McShane and Hood and they successfully managed to live up to the expectations in their Boxing
Day performance.
He also shared that he was expecting it to happen that way, while adding that in his opinion, it was not a very fast game but “was not as pedestrian as I thought it would be.”
Meanwhile, Wildcats featured twelve fresh faces in their Boxing Day clash against Rhinos. He took their loss at the friendly encounter as learning experience for them. While referring to the positive learning from their defeat at the hands of the Rhinos,
the coach further added that he will incorporate them into their future games.
