Brian McDermott of Leeds Rhinos talks about threats posed by Castleford Tigers
Brian McDermott, who coaches Leeds Rhinos, said on August 4 that his outfit will not concentrate on the uncertainty regarding Rangi Chase’ s inclusion in the Carnegie Challenge Cup semi-final against the Castleford Tigers, on Sunday, August 7, at Doncaster’s
Keepmoat Stadium.
There has been news circulating within Castleford about Chase that he may not be able to make it back for the big clash against Rhinos, due to his ongoing legal proceedings in Australia. Chase’s inclusion will play a major role in taking the Tigers to the
next level.
It is not only about Chase’s inclusion in the clash alone but there are other players who are exceptionally good in their game which should be taken into account by Leeds. This includes Castleford’s skipper, Danny Orr, who has the ability to alter the equation
without Chase on board. McDermott has worked with Orr, for four years and he is well aware of his potential as a player. He acknowledged that Orr’s inclusion on the Sunday night’s clash is the biggest threat posed by the Tigers.
He further added that the threat which comes from Chase is also linked to Orr. He explained further that the way Chase handles the ball and makes his presence felt, is due to the Orr’s influence on everyone around him. According to him, there is a major
improvement in terms of performance by all is felt on the whole.
McDermott is of viewpoint that Orr is very passionate about the game and is by far one of the toughest players he ever came across.
He also added that to combat the threats posed his squad has worked really hard and also assured that his outfit will not be snarled by the threat which is posed by a single man. He further added that his squad has been trained to face
While speaking about the threats and their solutions mastered by Leeds, McDermott stated, “Rangi Chase has a threat, there's no doubt about that, and we have to handle when he's got the ball in his hand. How we nullify that, we have some ideas, but I wont
get drawn into the one man threat thing.”
It was further shared by the Leeds’ coach that, “We're all forgetting about Ryan McGoldrick and Ryan Hudson. You take your eye off the ball with Ryan McGoldrick - he's a sensational ball carrier and he gets defenders to do things they know they shouldn't
do, and they've been coached against that.”
The Leeds’ coach believes that there is already enough threat posed by the Castleford as they are a brilliant team with a lot of potential. Taking into account the uncertainity regarding the Chase’s inclusion in the semi-final would be of no use.
