Brian Meehan pleased with Most Improved’s Qipco 2000 Guineas preparations
Trainer Brian Meehan is satisfied with the way Most Improved has been gearing up for the Qipco 2000 Guineas Stakes, to be held at Newmarket in May this year.
Meehan has set sights on the big prize money, and Most Improved looks his main hope this season. In order to prepare his dashing trainee for the high voltage meeting, Meehan is likely to go on the same route, which was taken
by the former stable star, Delegator.
As a result, Most Improved will look to capture Craven Stakes before going for the big meeting in May. Meehan is pleased with the progress Most Improved has made so far.
“Most Improved has grown and filled out. We are very pleased with how he looks and he is now doing fast work," Meehan was quoted by his website, as saying.
Out of his three starts so far, the three-year-old came out as winner once. The bay colt kicked off his career in August last year, when he could not seal first position by a short head distance in the Bet At Bluesq.com Maiden
Stakes.
He carried forward his good work to the subsequent race in the same month. The EBF "Dutch Art" Piper-Heidsieck Champagne Maiden Stakes at Newmarket saw him topping the chart by staggering five lengths.
However, luck once again slipped out of his hands, as he finished third by a head distance in the Dubai Dewhurst Stakes (Group 1) (Entire Colts & Fillies) in October last year. The novice took keen hold early on, but failed
to maintain good work.
He had every chance to finish at least among top two position holders, but staying on same pace eliminated all of his chances. In the final 100 yards, he was under tremendous pressure, but Meehan’s trainee eventually succeeded
in nabbing third slot by ½ of a length.
Most Improved’s odds for the Qipco 2000 Guineas saw an improvement on Monday, when Coral cut him to 10-1 (from 12-1). BetVictor also showed some respect to Meehan’s colt, shortening him to 12-1 (from 14-1). According to the
current betting card, Camelot is 5-2 favourite with most of the bookmakers.
