Brian Nygaard to join GreenEdge as Communications Director for 2012 – Cycling News
Brian Nygaard has found a role in team GreenEdge and he will be representing the squad as the Communications Director for the coming season. With the rumours of Leopard Trek and RadioShack merger there was the news of Leopard Trek’s manager possibly joining
GreenEdge. The rumours were denied by the respective spokesmen but the merger of the two teams to form RadioShack-Nissan-Trek was confirmed earlier this month.
Gazzetta dello Sport first published the news of the merger as they also speculated that Leopard Trek manager Brian Nygaard will return to the Australian team GreenEdge as a press officer. GreenEdge manager Shayne Bannan rejected the news as he mentioned
in the last week of August, 2011, "I've been reading the rumours about RadioShack and Leopard but I've had no contact with Brian (Nygaard)."
Team has now confirmed the news that Nygaard will be joining them for the coming season considering the fact that he has spent eight years as a press officer for CSC-Saxo Bank and then he moved to Team Sky. He finally joined Leopard Trek in 2010 and served
one year with the team before they announced their merger with RadioShack.
Shayne Bannan believes that someone as experienced as Brian will find his place in any team as he said, "We're delighted to have someone with Brian's experience on the team." He further added that, "Although we're a predominately Australian team, we're an
international team both on and off the road. Beyond the technical elements of the job, Brian knows cycling and speaks a number of languages which will help us tell our story around the globe."
Nygaard has been accused of not being able to find a sponsor for his previous team Leopard Trek to which he has replied by stating that finding the sponsors was not his responsibility. He mentioned that Flavio Becca did not directly fired him but offered
him a position quite low to his qualification which was technically the same as firing. The Dane stated that his job with Leopard Trek was to build the team as it was the first year for the squad and he never said yes on finding sponsors for the team.
