Brian O’Driscoll wants Leinster to be remembered – Rugby News Update
Brian O’Driscoll, the 33-year-old Leinster and Irish centre has sent a warning to the other teams in Europe after their Heineken Cup triumph, by stating that the team should use this as an impetus to achieve further glory in the future.
O’Driscoll is one of the most feared players in rugby, with breathtaking offensive and defensive capabilities. After guiding Leinster to back-to-back titles in the Heineken Cup, their third in four years, he wants to create a dynasty and not be content with
the accolades his team has achieved.
"After we won the first we talked about not being content with that," he said.
"We're now trying to create some kind of dynasty and something to be remembered."
O'Driscoll added, "We're going in the right direction towards doing that. I know this team, they'll be hungry for more."
The 33-year-old Centre was born in Dublin and represented Ireland at Ireland Schools, U19 and U21 levels, before earning his first international cap in 1999 against Australia at Brisbane, on June 21. He scored his first international try against the USA
at the 1999 Rugby World Cup.
It was feared that the mercurial player will not feature in the final due to an injury but he overcame it. However, he did miss the matches in the group stages and he paid tribute to his colleagues Eoin O'Malley and Luke Fitzgerald who missed the final due
to injuries.
"For the important part, the hard graft, people like Eoin O'Malley, sitting at home today having had his cruciate done yesterday, had a huge involvement."This medal is part his and likewise Luke Fitzgerald."
He paid tribute to all the players who helped the club achieve the victory, especially the energy that the squad displayed throughout the match. Leinster can add another title next weekend at Dublin, when they play the final of the RaboDirect PRO12 league
against Ospreys.
O’Driscoll has played for Ireland a total of 117 times, starting 116 of those games, while coming on as a substitute just once. He also represented the British and Irish Lions 6 times.
