Brian O’Driscoll wants more success – Rugby News Update
Brian O’Driscoll, the 33-year-old Leinster and Irish centre has remarked that it is the lure of trophies and medals that keeps him going.
The Centre said, "It's medals. Trophies. It is. It's about being selfish and wanting more now."
O’Driscoll is one of the most decorated Irish players at the international and at club level. He won back-to-back Heineken Cups with his club Leinster, and it was their third title in four years. The 33-year-old centre has played 117 matches for his country,
with more caps to come. He is the record try scorer for his country as well, and is still looking for further accolades.
Commenting on the title, he said, "People were saying it tongue in cheek, 'can you do three-in-a-row'. The pleasure of being involved with this group of players is that I know how hungry they are and I know how they will push one another. I would imagine
we would definitely try to defend the title as much as we did this year."
He can add further titles to his name next weekend when Leinster play Ospreys in the final of the RaboDirect PRO12 League at Dublin. They will take more confidence into that game, especially after beating a regional team, Ulster, in the final of the Heineken
Cup.
After the League final, he will be joining the Irish team that tours New Zealand in the summer for a test-match series. He is also excited at the prospect of playing for Ireland after a gruelling season.
"We have one more game to focus on with Leinster, and then we will be in camp and switched on to the job of travelling down there and hopefully getting our first win against New Zealand."
O’Driscoll had represented Ireland at the Ireland Schools, U19 and U21 levels before he made his international debut against Australia at Brisbane, on June 12, 1999. He was selected for the 1999 Rugby World Cup, scoring his first international try against
the United States. Besides playing for Ireland he has also represented the British and Irish Lions seven times in his career.
